The High Court in Uganda has today delivered a ruling in which Dr. Kiiza Besigye and Hajj Obeid Lutale (Criminal Application No. 0814 of 2025) applied to be released on bail and for the stay of proceedings pending the determination o f their constitutional petition. However, the court declined to grant either of the reliefs holding that the constitutional petition in itself does not guarantee stay of criminal proceedings and that bail id granted at the discretion of the court. see the full ruling attached.
